Cultural mediation

Ballets Jazz Montréal aims to have an impact on the community. The company values cultural expression and diversity and participates in civic life by making art accessible to all audiences.

BJM thus creates meeting places for artists and citizens to promote exchange and engagement. The company is dedicated to spreading art widely so that creation can serve as a vehicle for social inclusion and connection.

The impact?

Mediation fosters connections between artists and citizens, promoting interpersonal exchange, learning, and engagement. It can also help reduce psychological and social barriers that lead to the exclusion of targeted groups. As a tool for social inclusion, mediation contributes to improving the physical or social environment and creating social ties.

Ballets Jazz Montréal and its community

A Space for Dialogue
For BJM, performances are spaces for discussion. This allows audience members to better understand the creative process and daily activities of a professional dance company. Led by Alexandra Damiani and supported by the dancers, these intimate sessions aim to break down the barriers between the public and the artists. It's a way to make art accessible.

Public Rehearsals: BJM invites the public to share a moment in the studio with the entire artistic team. This is a unique opportunity to observe the various stages of the creative process and gain insight into the world of a professional dance company.

Workshops for Seniors
Dance is a great way to get your body moving, have fun, and be creative. BJM offers workshops for dance enthusiasts of all ages. No experience is necessary.

The introductory dance workshop begins with a discussion, followed by a warm-up. The dance teacher will guide the group through a series of creative tasks, giving everyone the opportunity to explore different dance styles and approaches to movement.

Schools and Young Audiences
In an effort to democratize dance, BJM offers a variety of activities for young audiences. The company provides educational tools adapted to each age group (elementary, secondary, and CEGEP) and need (open studio rehearsals, performances, meetings, and workshops).
