Aszure Barton
With Jack in the Box, Aszure Barton questions growth, rules and group power, in a physical and committed work that extends the universe of Les Chambres des Jacques.
“ Les Chambres des Jacques takes as its starting point the exploration of the human being within the dancer, particularly his life and inner dramas. In contrast, Jack in a Box addresses the external limits of the body. Through its structure and form, the work this time questions growth, etiquette, and the power of the group as a collective whole.”
-Azure Barton
Highly anticipated by the public and critics, this latest creation by Azure Barton follows the first installment , Les Chambres des Jacques .
A co-production of the Banff Centre, the National Arts Centre and the Canada Dance Festival.
A work dedicated to Marjorie and Gerald Bronfman.
"A few years ago, in this space [The Egg], I chose ‘the desert island dance company’ – the troupe I would want to be able to watch again and again if I had to choose just one (…) After Friday night’s performance by Ballets Jazz Montréal, I know which piece of dance I would take with me to that island: Jack in a Box by Azure Barton.”
- Tresca Weinstein, Times Union (Albany, USA)
"This contemporary dance company is undoubtedly one of the most popular in the country."
- Salena Kitteringham, Edmonton Journal (Edmonton, Canada)
