Aszure Barton

With Jack in the Box, Aszure Barton questions growth, rules and group power, in a physical and committed work that extends the universe of Les Chambres des Jacques.

Les Chambres des Jacques takes as its starting point the exploration of the human being within the dancer, particularly his life and inner dramas. In contrast, Jack in a Box addresses the external limits of the body. Through its structure and form, the work this time questions growth, etiquette, and the power of the group as a collective whole.”

 -Azure Barton

Highly anticipated by the public and critics, this latest creation by Azure Barton follows the first installment , Les Chambres des Jacques .

A co-production of the Banff Centre, the National Arts Centre and the Canada Dance Festival.

A work dedicated to Marjorie and Gerald Bronfman.

"A few years ago, in this space [The Egg], I chose ‘the desert island dance company’ – the troupe I would want to be able to watch again and again if I had to choose just one (…) After Friday night’s performance by Ballets Jazz Montréal, I know which piece of dance I would take with me to that island: Jack in a Box by Azure Barton.”

 - Tresca Weinstein, Times Union (Albany, USA)

"This contemporary dance company is undoubtedly one of the most popular in the country."

 - Salena Kitteringham, Edmonton Journal (Edmonton, Canada)
