Andonis Foniadakis
Kosmos celebrates the strength of the group through a powerful and festive dance, where the performers coexist in a collective momentum, releasing tension and energy in a common movement.
In this creation for Ballets Jazz Montréal, the choreographer draws inspiration from the world around us and the frenetic energy people experience daily in a city. His observations served as the catalyst for creating choreographic gestures inspired by these mass movements, moments of agitation, and the urban whirlwind. Foniadakis, however, seeks to find a counterweight, to reveal a beauty, and to translate this movement into a dance that aims to be a unifying, joyful, and liberating moment. A dance based on clear gestures where the group formed by the performers must coexist. A moment of reunion, gathering, and letting go, liberating from tensions, in contrast to the restrictions imposed by our modern society. Once again, this creation will bear the distinctive mark of Ballets Jazz Montréal, characterized by a pure, festive energy, a celebration of humanity, its beauty, and its creative force.
"The performers are engaged in a chaotic race, which seems both an ode to and a critique of the frenzy of modern society. The movement is explosive, dizzying, pushing the limits of control, with arms flailing through the air, the dancers' freed hair swirling, all punctuated by jumps, runs, rolls, and slides on the floor."
