Wen Wei Wang
Night Box is an energetic creation by Wen Wei Wang inspired by the urban night frenzy, where love, desire and joy intertwine in a luminous dance between contemporary ballet and street dance.
In this creation for Ballets Jazz Montréal, Wen Wei Wang draws inspiration from urban life, and particularly from the city's nightlife. The city is evoked through sounds, rhythms, and music, against the backdrop of the ceaseless flashing lights of major metropolises. An energetic work where love, loss, sexuality, and joy intertwine. A perpetual movement blending contemporary ballet with street dance, alternating between group scenes, trios, duets, and solos. Wen Wei Wang advocates a light-based approach for this new creation, recreating the different facets of the city at night: private spaces, nightclubs, and street scenes. The choreographer collaborated with Montreal designers UNTTLD to create a fresh and innovative style inspired by urban street art.
"The dancers embody the denizens of nightclubs, facing not the audience, but a video projection of the frenetic energy of a major city. Their expansive movements, reminiscent of strange birds, will create different scenes, some in search of romance, others seeking thrills in the urban night. Angular and jerky movements exist alongside others that are fluid and acrobatic."

"This work is about people and their everyday lives through their body language, energy, and emotions. A work that reflects the world we live in. A very big thank you to the performers for their collaborative spirit and generous contribution to the concept."
