Annabelle Lopez Ochoa
Inspired by the virtual world and avatars, Zip Zap Zoom explores the boundary between real and digital, where dance reveals the human emotions and tensions behind the screens.
With Zip Zap Zoom, the choreographer takes her dancers into the virtual world of online gaming. This form of entertainment has become a true escape and has many followers. It's a world in which one can invent a new identity, where choices are endless and winning remains the ultimate goal. The choreographer explores the "real" emotions and reflexes that can arise between "avatars" (these alter egos used on forums and other online communities) within the world of electronic music and virtual reality.
“The world premiere of Ochoa's Zip Zap Zoom is an explosive dance that transports us into the virtual world of video games. It's fascinating to watch the dancers transform into virtual characters and even abstract forms. Each level of the game features new dance styles, such as hip-hop, ballroom, and cabaret, performed with lively energy and personality by the artists.”

“This piece is more than relevant and timely. It is contemporary and represents the world of dance today. Ochoa is a skillful choreographer who knows how to recognize the possibilities offered by this constantly evolving art world. During her studies, she was clearly seen as ‘a rising star of the Dutch scene,’ and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa has easily demonstrated that she has become that star today. She richly deserves the honors for this absolutely phenomenal work.”
