Caroline Charron

Ballets Jazz Montréal is pleased to announce the launch of the Caroline Charron Internship Program for the 2024–25 season. This initiative reflects the company's commitment to building a sense of community and training the artists of tomorrow. Seasoned performers will serve as mentors, guiding and training the next generation of dancers. This mutually beneficial process creates opportunities for young talent and allows experienced artists to play an active role in their development.

We recognize that many young dancers struggle to find professional opportunities despite having degrees. They often find themselves in a bind: they need professional experience to secure contracts, but they cannot gain experience without one. This internship program aims to bridge this gap by offering practical experience that allows each artist to flourish.

Our artistic director, Alexandra Damiani, shared her vision for the program with us. "Since becoming the artistic director of Ballets Jazz Montréal, I have wanted to create a program that supports new artists while staying true to the company’s artistic vision. I am convinced that BJM must create opportunities that foster mentorship from one generation of dancers to the next. Launching this type of training at BJM allows experienced performers to play a role that encourages them to focus on nurturing the next generation."

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Caroline Charron for her generous financial support, which made this program possible. Affectionately known as "Godmother" by our dancers, Caroline has strengthened our community, fostered relationships, and provided invaluable resources since joining us after the passing of her father, a former member of our board of directors.

Born with a natural inclination for the arts, Caroline Charron grew up in a family that valued both sports and the arts. After graduating from CEGEP with a degree in communications and journalism, she landed a job as a writer for the federal government in Ottawa, where her passion for dance blossomed. At 34, she pursued studies in trilingual translation at the University of Ottawa, graduating at 40. She enjoyed a successful career, first as Head of Linguistic Services at the Bank of Canada and later as Director of Linguistic Services at Lexitech International. In 2005, Caroline returned to Montreal with her sons and established herself as a certified translator. Currently residing in the Eastern Townships, Caroline balances her work as a translator and author with various volunteer activities. She is dedicated to supporting the dance community while pursuing her dream of publishing a novel.

Thanks to Caroline Charron's internship, we will be able to:

  • Create a comprehensive and enriching experience for our interns.

  • Serve as a reference for potential employers or projects.

  • Offer a one-year salary

  • Provide networking opportunities to help our interns build their professional networks

  • Provide the opportunity to teach and support our artistic team during master and intensive classes.

This season, we welcome Millie Brinck-Dubuc as our intern. She will immerse herself in daily studio training, participate in touring shows, contribute to the creation of new works, and share the stage with our talented artists.

Our goal is to provide our interns with the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in the professional dance world, whether with Ballets Jazz Montréal, other companies, or through independent projects.

Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter as we empower the next generation of dancers and continue to honor Ballets Jazz Montréal's rich heritage.
