A WORK DONATED TO BJM BY A LOCAL ARTIST

Following on from Bulles Jazz Montréal, and in dialogue with the four choreographed pieces presented during this benefit evening - The Second First Time (Madeleine Salhany), Chameleon (Zack Preece), Catharsis (Troy Atamanuk), and Monster Within (Yosmell Calderón Mejías) - we had the privilege of witnessing the creation of a photographic work by Rizlane Abdessamad.

Emerging from BJM_Lab, a 10-hour choreographic research laboratory developed by the company, these creations inspired an artistic approach in direct resonance with their own temporality. Rizlane constructed her work over an equivalent duration, establishing a sensitive parallel between choreographic gesture and photographic gesture.

Thanks to the long exposure, she captured the performers’ movement from a different angle: bodies unfold, overlap, and transform, making the image a living trace of movement rather than a frozen moment.

Inspired by the themes of transformation present in the pieces, this creation offers a reading of dance that is both sensory and constantly evolving.

We warmly thank Rizlane for this generous creation offered to the company, which extends and enriches the dialogue between the artistic disciplines.
